Promising hooker Will Dorrell signs Senior Academy contract

Coventry Rugby are delighted to announce that promising hooker Will Dorrell has signed a Senior Academy contract with the club.

Coventry Rugby are delighted to announce that promising hooker Will Dorrell has signed a Senior Academy contract with the club.

Dorrell,18, who joined Coventry Rugby’s Under-18s Academy from Gloucester’s pathway system, has enjoyed a standout season, captaining the U18 side and consistently impressing coaches with his performances and leadership qualities.

A modern-day hooker, Dorrell combines dynamic attacking ability with strong defensive work and reliable set-piece execution, marking him out as one of the Academy’s most exciting prospects. His development has been further supported by his time at The King’s School, Worcester, where he has balanced his academic and rugby commitments to excellent effect.

From September, Dorrell will embark on an exciting dual-career pathway. Alongside his rugby development, he will begin working with club sponsors Bromwich Hardy as an apprentice surveyor. His weekly schedule will see him split his time between one day at university, two days training with Coventry Rugby’s senior environment, and the remainder of the week gaining valuable professional experience in the workplace.

Coventry Rugby Academy Manager Matt Jones highlighted the broader significance of Dorrell’s progression:

“For Coventry Rugby, this is much more than an individual achievement – it is evidence that the club’s vision of creating genuine pathways to the top of English rugby from across the Midlands is bearing fruit.

Will is an outstanding individual within our Academy set-up and has made significant progress over the past few months, thanks to his own commitment, exposure to senior training opportunities, and the excellent support he receives at The King’s School, Worcester. He has a bright future in the game, and we look forward to supporting his next steps as he takes on this new stage.

The support of Bromwich Hardy, and the knowledge that he is building a career for a life after sport, is the perfect blend of the corporate world working with rugby to support young players.”

Tom Bromwich, Managing Partner at Bromwich Hardy, also spoke about the partnership and Dorrell’s opportunity:

“Professional rugby is a relatively short career, and it pays to plan for the many years of employment to come.

At Bromwich Hardy, we like to encourage our home-grown talent, and we saw an opportunity here both to map out a career for Will as well as add to our own ‘team’ someone who has already shown the drive and commitment to succeed.”

Everyone at Coventry Rugby congratulates Will on this well-deserved opportunity and looks forward to supporting his continued development both on and off the field.

Further 2026/27 Senior Academy signings will be announced in due course.
