Coventry Rugby are delighted to confirm that Matt Johnson has re-signed with the club for the 2026/27 season.

Coventry Rugby are delighted to confirm that Matt Johnson has re-signed with the club for the 2026/27 season.

The tighthead prop will continue in blue and white after reaching the milestone of 50 appearances for the club, scoring three tries along the way. Since arriving at the Nick Newbold Stadium, Johnson has established himself as a dependable member of Coventry’s front row, earning a reputation for his consistency, durability and work ethic.

Having gained valuable experience in the Champ over recent seasons, Johnson has continued to develop his game and become an increasingly important part of Coventry’s forward pack. His contribution at set-piece time and around the field has played a key role in the side's progress.

Head Coach Alex Rae believes Johnson’s growth and maturity have been among the standout aspects of his development.

“Matt’s someone who gets on with his work in a really positive manner. He’s experienced now in the Championship and his work rate for a tighthead has been really impressive.

“He’s improving all the time and maturing into a really solid, reliable tighthead.”
