Coventry Rugby produced an impressive second-half performance to secure a 35–17 victory over Ampthill in Round 6 of the Elior Champ, extending their winning run to five consecutive matches.

In front of the home supporters at the Nick Newbold Stadium, the Blue-and-Whites had to show patience and resilience against an Ampthill side that proved difficult to break down in the opening 40 minutes.

Coventry made an excellent start, taking the lead after just three minutes when Tom Ball crossed for the opening try. Bruce Houston added the conversion to give the hosts an early 7–nil advantage.

Ampthill responded however, and two tries from Harrison Dakin saw the visitors secure a 12-7 lead at the break, with Finn Keylock slotting one from two conversions.

Coventry returned after the break with renewed determination and quickly turned the game around. Jonny Benz-Salomon came off the bench and made his impact felt immediately, crossing in the 47th minute. Houston added the extras to restore the hosts' lead - 14–12.

The Blue-and-Whites began to take control of the contest, with their forward pack providing a strong platform and their attacking game becoming increasingly difficult for Ampthill to contain.

Morgan Strong extended Coventry's advantage in the 55th minute, before Murray Davidson added another try ten minutes later. Houston converted both efforts, taking the score to 28–12 and putting the hosts firmly in control.

Ampthill refused to surrender and continued to battle. Joe Browning crossed in the 68th minute to reduce the deficit to 28–17, keeping the visitors' hopes alive.

However, Coventry had the final say with Senitiki Nayalo producing a powerful finish in the 79th minute to secure the hosts' fifth try of the afternoon. Houston maintained his perfect kicking record by adding the conversion to complete the scoring at 35–17.

It was a thoroughly deserved victory for Coventry, whose second-half dominance ultimately proved decisive. Five-tries and five-successful conversions demonstrated the effectiveness of their attacking play, while their ability to respond after trailing at half-time underlined the character within the squad.

The result also extends Coventry's winning sequence to five matches and keeps them firmly in contention near the top of the Champ table.

Coventry head north to take on Caldy in Round 7 of the Elior Champ next Saturday, 7 November, kick-off at 1:00pm.
