Coventry Rugby are delighted to confirm the signing of Rhys Fulford ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The powerful forward arrives at the Nick Newbold Stadium after an impressive rugby journey that has seen him develop through some of South Africa’s most respected pathways before gaining valuable experience in England.
Standing at 196cm and weighing 115kg, Fulford offers versatility across the second and back row, bringing physicality, athleticism and leadership qualities to Alex Rae’s squad.
Born on 18 October 2001, Fulford captained St Alban’s College 1st XV before progressing to represent Western Province Under-20s. He later became a key figure at the renowned Maties Rugby programme, where he captained the side during the 2024 season. Following spells with Hamiltons Rugby Club and Cambridge Rugby Club, he now makes the move to Coventry as he looks to take the next step in his career.
A dynamic forward capable of making an impact on both sides of the ball, Fulford has impressed with his work rate, physical presence and leadership credentials throughout his development.
Head Coach Alex Rae believes Coventry can provide the ideal environment for the talented forward to flourish.
“Rhys had a tough season in terms of being in a struggling Cambridge side, but we saw traits that we really liked and believe that in our environment he will really thrive.”
Fulford is excited to begin the next chapter of his career in blue and white.
“I couldn’t be more excited to be joining Coventry this season. From playing against them last year, I was so impressed by the way they approach the game and hope that I can do my bit to contribute to an even more successful season.”
Fulford becomes the latest addition to Coventry’s squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, adding size, versatility and leadership potential to a forward pack that continues to take shape ahead of the new season.
