Coventry Rugby are delighted to confirm the signing of centre Joe Margetts ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The experienced midfielder arrives at the Nick Newbold Stadium with a wealth of Champ experience, having made 107 appearances in the competition during a career that has seen him excel both in England and overseas.

Standing at 181cm and weighing 100kg, Margetts is capable of playing across the midfield and brings a combination of physicality, skill and experience to Alex Rae's squad.

The 29-year-old began his rugby journey at the University of Otago in New Zealand before moving to England, where he represented Hartpury and Doncaster Knights. He later spent time in France with USBPA Rugby before returning to Doncaster, establishing himself as one of the Champ's most consistent and respected centres.

Known for his powerful carrying, defensive solidity and ability to create opportunities for those around him, Margetts has built an impressive reputation over more than a century of Championship appearances.

Head Coach Alex Rae believes the experienced back will be an excellent fit for Coventry's style of play.

“Joe’s a proven performer in this league. He has a really good skillset and physical attributes which are going to really suit our style of rugby.

“Bodes has worked with him in the past and couldn’t speak more highly of him.”

Margetts is excited by the opportunity to join Coventry and become part of the club's ambitious future.

“I’m incredibly excited to be joining Coventry next season. The ambition throughout the club and the style of rugby they play really stood out to me, and I can’t wait to be a part of it.

“I’m looking forward to contributing to the team’s goals, playing in front of the supporters, meeting everyone, and creating some special memories together.”

Margetts becomes the latest addition to Coventry's squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, bringing proven Champ Rugby pedigree and valuable experience to a side continuing to strengthen for the season ahead.
