Into the swing of Champ Rugby? Well, we are and are loving being back! So, what’s been happening in the ‘CRSC World?’ Well, lots.
Memberships are going up and up, our CRSC 100 Lotto continues to attract players (always worth repeating that 50% of our monthly take supports Coventry Rugby Academy, our future) and three prize levels. Get on board!
Our ‘ bread and butter’ , running supporter coaches, is still in operation. Already we have run coaches to Rotherham for our opening Elior Champ Rugby fixture and last Friday at Nottingham.
The Rotherham trip, although a disappointing result (suspect Rotherham are hoping for a home fortress to help avoid relegation worries) , but it was an excellent and friendly visit to Clifton Lane. The home support were affable and thrilled to be back. We wish them well.
Last Friday was different again. It’s always been a difficult ground to visit, Lady Bay , and hasn’t been a successful place to go, results wise. The scintillating 64-26 win was a very pleasant surprise, a BP win. A feature, for me, standing by the dugouts, was the tremendous support by players for their fellow players , starters replaced by finishers (not a fan of that word!) and all supporting each other. Good to see.
Tonight we welcome newly promoted Blackheath to the NNS, fresh from their first win last week against Doncaster Knights. Been a fair while since we have met. I suppose, ala Rotherham, they will be targeting home successes. My abiding memory of Blackheath v Coventry matches was a previous game at Rectory Field in the Derek Eves era. One particular game was touch and go , the home support was in a particular spiky mode against Cov, ‘ Come on The Club’ particular resonant that day. Trailing 10-9, I think, suddenly Julian Horrobin charges over from the 22 for a try , which was then converted for 16-10?
At this, off goes Derek Eves along the front of the stand, ‘ Where you going Derek?’ is shouted . Back comes, in that familiar Bristolian accent, “ Job done , ain’t it?” Legend.
Welcome to all Blackheath supporters to the NNS.

Tom Patrick
It may or not be generally known yet, but Tom is leaving Coventry Rugby for pastures new at the end of October. It is fair to say this will be a big loss to the club. I think it’s only far to say that the stratospheric rise in Coventry Rugby’s media profile and engagements owes a lot to Tom over almost 2 years. The ‘quiet man’ has, and will , leave his mark. Tom’s moving to an employer with a Coventry link, it’s just not in the open yet! A positive for Tom, and also , Dan Lewis who went to F1, is that, if you take a chance with Coventry Rugby, our culture is embedded in allowing progression that could lead to more success. Truly, the actual embodiment of the Champ, ‘ The Proving Ground.’
So, if you see Tom going quietly about his duties in his remaining time with us, just say ‘ hi ‘ or good luck.
Good luck Tom and thanks for all your efforts and support from us at CRSC. Go well.
