Stampede in the City!
As part of the 2022 Commonwealth Games Celebrations, Coventry Rugby's official wheelchair rugby team - Coventry Stampede, hosted a demo of the Paralympic sport along with a taster session at the Queen's Baton Relay which took place in Coventry yesterday.
The relay began at The Reel Store and ended at the Assembly Festival Gardens. The Stampede were stationed at the Transport Museum - the first Baton viewing point on the route, where they hosted their demo and taster session for the large crowds in attendance.
On hand to help was x3 Paralympian and Stampede Head Coach/Project Officer, Mandip Sehmi. Sehmi commented "it was an amazing day for the team and the city. I'm so glad we were able to showcase wheelchair rugby for the Queen's Baton Relay!
The Commonwealth Games is huge and events like this go down in history. It was fantastic for us to be part of the celebrations.
A big thank you to everyone who came to support and got involved, especially the Cov Rugby fans who had a go at playing wheelchair rugby with the team. We hope we have inspired some to get involved or even come help out and volunteer.
We're back in action on Sunday [24th] at Stoke Mandeville Stadium for the GBWR Championship. The tournaments are open for supporters, we hope to see you there".
If you would like to try wheelchair rugby, support the team or become a sponsor please get in touch with Mandip Sehmi by emailing msehmi@coventryrugby.co.uk.
Thank you to Coventry Foundation for funding the Stampede and the great work they do.
