Coventry Rugby Launches First-Ever Pro Rugby Combine – A New Pathway to Professional Rugby

Coventry Rugby is set to break new ground with the launch of its first-ever Pro Rugby Combine, offering talented young players a direct pathway into professional rugby. The event, designed for Year 13 – 21 year old aspirational players, will identify emerging talent, provide a platform for late developers, and welcome athletes from other sports looking to transition into rugby.

A Unique Opportunity for Rising Talent

The Coventry Rugby Pro Rugby Combine will take place at Butts Park Arena, featuring a rigorous two-day testing process, a Pro Day with first-team staff, and a high-stakes Combine Match for the top 40 performers.

The schedule is as follows:

• Monday, 21st April 2025 – Testing Day 1: Front Five + Back Row + Back Three

• Tuesday, 22nd April 2025 – Testing Day 2: Half Backs + Centres + Non-Rugby Athletes

• Wednesday, 30th April 2025 – Pro Day: Top 50 players train with first-team and academy staff

• Friday, 2nd May 2025 – Combine Match: The top 40 players compete in front of professional staff

Selected players will have the chance to earn professional contracts or pre-season trial invitations with Coventry Rugby. Additionally, Midlands-based clubs will be in attendance, offering further playing opportunities and the chance to support bringing playing numbers back into the region. This initiative aims to create stronger links between talented players and local clubs, ensuring that promising athletes find the right level of competition to continue their development.

What to Expect

Participants will undergo a full testing battery, including physical performance assessments, positional skill evaluations, and rugby drills under the watchful eyes of Coventry Rugby’s senior coaching team.
