Community team release three brand new initiatives

Its fair to say it's been a busy few months for the Coventry Rugby Community department since the Summer holidays and since everybody has returned to school. The Community department has continued their hard work delivering rugby and sport initiatives in schools such as the Rugby and Reading project as well as teaming up with local Rugby clubs in the community.

The Community department have been keen to expand what Coventry Rugby offer and have released three brand new projects, all taking place at the Butts Park Arena under the floodlights in the evening.

Masterclasses

The Masterclasses are a series of classes focused on specific rugby skills. These classes will be lead by Coventry first team players for 12-16 year olds.

Dates & Details

  • Session 01 3rd November 2021: Kicking - 4.30pm till 6pm

This kicking masterclass will be lead by Tony Fenner and Evan Mitchell and will be focused on improving kicking skills both short and long distance, out of hand and also off the tee. All abilities are welcome.

  • Session 02 17th November 2021: Scrum - 4.30pm til 6pm

All abilities and levels would greatly benefit from the scrum masterclass led by first team players Phil Boulton and Toby Trinder. Both have vast experience and knowledge of scrummaging at the top two tiers of English rugby.

Details for the next two dates regarding players are yet to be released but dates and times are confirmed.

  • Session 03 1st December 2021: Breakdown - 4.30pm till 6pm

  • Session 04 15th December 2021: Passing - 4:30pm till 6pm

Walking Rugby


What is Walking Rugby?

This is a great opportunity for over 50s to increase activity levels and socialise. This is event is FREE, all you have to do is show up on Wednesday's 4:30pm - 6.00pm.

Running is forbidden as is passing the ball higher than shoulder height. There are also no tackles, no scrums, rucks or mauls.

Players are allowed to hold onto the ball for no more than three seconds before passing, keeping the pace moving and giving the other team an opportunity to intercept. No running allowed.

Walking Rugby is for anyone aged 50 and over. Sessions are adapted to cater for all backgrounds and experiences of Rugby. Veterans of the game are welcome as are newcomers.

All equipment is provided. Participants must wear suitable clothing. Sessions will take place outside on artificial grass. No studs/boots are required, just trainers.

The Walking Rugby sessions will be delivered by a Coventry Coach and will use the rules of Walking Rugby developed by Age UK.

Matchday Takeover

So far this season, we have welcomed Keresley RFC and Earlsdon RFC minis and juniors for Matchday Takeover's at our home games. The Takeover morning starts with some activities on the pitch lead by our Community team and some of the squad who aren't playing or injured.

What does a Matchday Takeover include?

  • Food and drink available (with private gazebo and bar)

*U16s go free only with a full paying adult.
