Toby Trinder becomes the latest member of Coventry Rugby’s exclusive 100 club when his team faces East Midlands rivals Nottingham in round 10 of the Championship at Lady Bay tomorrow (3pm kick off).
The most-selected member of Cov’s current squad becomes the 23rd player and eleventh forward to make 100 appearances for the Blue-and-Whites in the 30-year professional era.
The 26-year-old loose-head prop is named alongside skipper Jordon Poole and on-loan former Jersey Red Stevie Longwell as part of an unchanged front row.
Cov head coach Alex Rae does however make adjustments to both the second and back rows of the pack that battled so hard before slipping to a 25-35 home defeat at the hands of defending champions Ealing last Saturday.
The first of these sees experienced second-row James Tyas restored to a starting role alongside Obinna Nkwocha with the versatile Tiki Nayalo as a result switching to no.8.
Matt Kvesic also makes a positional shift – across the back-row from blindside to openside flank – with Chester Owen selected at no.6 on a ground where he made a big impression during Cov’s most recent league visit in the spring by scoring twice after arriving from the bench.
Coventry are unchanged behind the scrum for their second visit of the current season to Lady Bay. This means top try-scorer Ryan Hutler – who claimed one of his six touchdowns during that November cup encounter – retains his record of having started all 13 of Cov’s competitive games so far this season.
Daf Tiueti teams up with Tom Hitchcock in the centre for a ninth time this season against the club he left for the Butts Park Arena in the summer while top-scorer Liam Richman and Josh Barton are named at half-back.
Cov persist with three backs on the bench after using this combination for the first time this term against Ealing.
Six of the eight replacements who faced the Trailfinders are named in the same roles against the Archers with back-rowers Tom Ball and Dan Okeke completing this week’s bench contingent.
Rae says his team must be at their best if they are to repeat the bonus-point success at Nottingham delivered by last month’s 15-34 Premiership Rugby Cup win.
“We’re expecting another tight derby game with Nottingham,” he said.
“They are having a good season and although we managed to win there in the cup we will have to be at our best if we are to repeat that result.”
