Coventry Rugby announces its squad for the first Pre-Season fixture of the 2022/23 season, against Merthyr RFC on Saturday 13th August 2022.
The last time the Blue and White’s took to the pitch was in the Championship Cup Final against Ealing Trailfinders, which ended in a heartbreaking and narrow loss. Excitement to return to the field is at an all-time high within the new squad, and Saturday will be your first chance to see a host of new names in action.
Head Coach, Alex Rae has named a 34-man squad to face welsh side, Merthyr RFC, in what is his first opportunity to test his young and ambitious squad. “We’re really excited to get going! Pre-Season is about getting ready to play, so we’re chomping at the bit to swap gruelling training for what will be a really tough first match.”
A number of new names have been added to the squad over the summer, and Alex is excited to see what they can do in a Coventry shirt for the first time; “All the new faces are buzzing to get out there, and we can’t wait to see them in action too. Everyone will get game-time, including our youngsters in the senior academy, so it should be a brilliant opportunity to come and see all of the talent that we have within this squad.”
Merthyr RFC, based in Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales, is a member of the Welsh Rugby Union, playing in the Principality Premiership, and are a feeder club for the Cardiff Blues. Merthyr will provide a tricky first test for Rae’s squad, but we look forward to welcoming both their players and any travelling supporters that have made the trip over.
Gates open at 12pm on Saturday, as does the club shop – which will be selling the new range of training/leisure wear, as well as the brand new replica home and away shirts for 2022/23.
