The Lambs edge a narrow victory over Coventry’s U18.
Coventry U18s vs Lambs | 24th April 2022 | KO 1pm | Kenilworth RFC
Another thrilling meeting between these two sides, the hosts and their nomadic visitors. This was a thrill-a-minute clash and very entertaining.
Cov struck first with a close-range try, the home pack capping off a spell of pressure for the unconverted opener. However, Lambs replied with two excellently worked tries, the first created by the speed of winger Dave J, the second a flowing passing move from the visitors, both converted for a 14-10 lead, these tries sandwiching another Cov try , Cov capitalising on a Lambs error, again unconverted.
Lambs stretched their lead to a 21-10 interval lead, just about deserving the points tally against a combative home XV.
But, after a raft of home changes at the break, Cov struck back with a converted try soon after the restart, finishing off a period of forward pressure to score wide out, excellently converted.
Cov scored another converted try on the hour mark, before a try, converted, and a penalty had Lambs stretching their lead for a 31-24 lead. However, a Lambs error on halfway, allowed Cov’s fly-half to swerve his way through for an excellent try, which he then converted.
Another Lambs try, converted, late on, seemed to be the end of the scoring. And so it proved. However, a late surge by the Blue and Whites and close to another try seemed to have given the hosts the chance for a draw. But the referee ruled no try and game end.
No lack of effort by the Coventry Under 18’s in front of the crowd at Kenilworth’s ground, lots of potential, effort and skills on show. A big thank you to Kenilworth RFC for the use of the pitch and thanks to Lambs for another thrilling contest.
Enjoy the summer everyone!
