COVENTRY flyers Max Trimble and James Stokes shared seven tries on their debuts for Warwickshire in a remarkable 56-56 draw against North Midlands in the second round of County Championship Division 2 pool games at Rugby Lions,
Stokes scored the first two home tries in the opening quarter, going on to complete his hat-trick early in the second half, while Trimble finished with a four-timer, including a spectacular 65-metre run-in when Warwickshire moved the ball wide for their own 22, as the visitors struggled to cope with the pace of the home backs.
But despite one for the forwards from Broadstreet prop Jake Dodd and a 100 per cent return for fly-half Ben Palmer off the kicking tee, it still wasn’t enough to secure victory for Warwickshire as North Midlands – built around a strong Stourbridge contingent – came from 35-12 and 42-17 down to score four tries in the last 12 minutes and secure a share which would have been a win if Rod Petty – an old adversary of Coventry from his days at Birmingham & Solihull – had converted the final score.
Quite a game!
