Coventry Rugby is thrilled to announce the re-signing of George Smith, ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Having originally started the 2022/23 Pre-Season on a trial basis, the tall second row made an eye-catching start to life at Butts Park Arena before putting pen to paper and becoming a permanent member of the squad. George had previous been playing his rugby at Old Redcliffians in Bristol, but is now relishing the full-time rugby environment.
Speaking about his decision to re-sign with the club, Smith said that “It’s been a pleasure playing for Coventry this season , and I’m already buzzing to get the next one going. We’ve got a really good vision of what we want to achieve and I’m so glad to be a part of it.”
Head Coach Alex Rae is looking forward to seeing the 6’9” second row further develop at Butts Park; “George arrived last year as a raw young lock project, he’s worked really hard and has made real strides this season. He’s got some raw ingredients that you can’t coach and with his hard work and the coaches developing him, we think he’s going to continue to develop.”
Everyone at Coventry Rugby is looking forward to seeing more of George in the Blue and White next season!
