Coventry Rugby prides itself in being a community-based rugby club, very much at the physical and metaphorical centre of our great city. With this in mind, and with the hope of giving back to the community, we will be hosting Premiership side, Bath Rugby at local Coventry-based rugby club, Broadstreet RFC on Saturday 27th August.
We have teamed up with Bath Rugby, and our friends at Broadstreet RFC to create a day to remember for Coventry supporters and rugby fans alike. As a club, we are proud to announce a fixture that unites three rugby clubs at three different levels of the game. The day will be one for the entire family, that will showcase some of the best talent from both the Championship and Premiership divisions. Mini and Junior sections of Broadstreet RFC are invited to partake in fun, rugby-based activities and games led by our community team prior to kick-off. Entertainment in the form of live music, inflatables as well as plenty of food and beverage options will be available to pick from.
Coventry Rugby Head Coach, Alex Rae is excited to test his side against a team in the top flight. “It will be a brilliant day! We’re looking forward to welcoming Bath to the Coventry area, as well as Johann van Graan for his first game as Bath’s Head of Rugby. It should be the start of a great relationship between two clubs, that are excited to be working with each other more and more in the future.”
Our opponent for the day, Bath Rugby, founded in 1865, is one of the oldest clubs in existence. Since the mid-19th century, Bath have gone on to cement their place as one of the most prominent rugby teams in both the English and European game. The third and final Pre-Season fixture for our Coventry squad is sure to provide a stern test, however, the chance to go head-to-head against a Premiership outfit is always an opportunity to be relished.
Former Coventry player and current First Team Manager and Head Coach at Broadstreet RFC, Brett Daynes, is looking forward to welcoming his old side on the 27th. “We truly believe that we have some of the best facilities in Coventry & Warwickshire for rugby. To have Coventry playing Bath here on the 27th August is great for both Coventry and ourselves! From a personal point of view, Coventry is obviously very close to my heart and it is fantastic that we can host them and Bath, in their preseason match.”
Broadstreet RFC Chairman, Andries van der Merwe, had this to say on hosting the fixture: “We are delighted to have Coventry Rugby and Bath at Broadstreet rugby club, this will be a great family day for all and will showcase not only our fantastic facilities but promote 3 great Rugby clubs to the people of Coventry and Warwickshire, we are really looking forward to a great day of Rugby.”
General admission tickets will be priced at just £10 for adults and £3 for Under 16’s. This special ‘one-of-a-like’ community-focused fixture will not be included in Season Membership packages; as per the Season Membership terms and conditions, and due to the external operating costs incurred on the day – with the fixture taking place away from Butts Park Arena. A Family ticket of two adults and up to three children (U16) will also be available at £22.
Car parking spaces (limited) on site are available to purchase here.
We look forward to welcoming our supporters, sponsors and everyone at Bath Rugby to Broadstreet RFC on Saturday 27th August, and we are sure the day will be an excellent finale to a competitive Pre-Season ahead of the eagerly anticipated 2022/23 campaign.
