Coventry Rugby are confident that the Butts Park Arena will sell out for the first time when Premiership champions Northampton are Saturday’s cup visitors.
The Championship leaders, who are unbeaten in seven league and cup outings so far this season, set a ground record when 5047 fans watched their win over Nottingham on Boxing Day 2023.
But the arrival of the East Midlands giants – who like their hosts have this autumn registered Premiership Rugby Cup wins against Leicester and Nottingham – is already set to see the home to which Coventry returned from Coundon Road in 2004 reach its 5250 ceiling for the first time.
General Manager Matt Cannon (pictured) said advanced sales are progressing at a rapid rate following Cov’s impressive round two cup win at Welford Road.
“We sold out the main stand which holds 2750 in the middle of last week,” he said.
“We’re selling around 200 tickets a day and have a few hundred standing tickets left.
“We also have over 300 people dining in the marquee and another 160 in the Askew’s suite which means they are both at capacity.
“Anyone wanting to join us on Saturday should buy standing tickets as soon as possible either from our website or by phone as we think we’ll be sold out by the middle of the week.”
Cov advise that bars will open at 12 noon with all screens showing the Sky Blues’ televised lunchtime kick off against Sheffield United.
Supporters can enjoy drinks promotions until 2pm, the club shop will be open from 1pm while the club’s community department will run mini rugby sessions on the pitch.
According to Cannon the Blue-and-Whites are working hard to ensure that supporters have an enjoyable matchday experience.
“We will advise where the best places are to park in our pre-match guide as we anticipate the car park being full by 1230,” he said.
“In partnership with Purity and Ronnies of Warwick we will have additional bars open around the ground, our food outlets will all be open and we have arranged additional toilets.
“There is also live music after the game in both the marquee and the Jon Sharp Suite.
“We’re hopeful this is the first of four 5000-plus crowds at the BPA this season and it should be a fabulous occasion.”
