The local reserves unit will be on site this Saturday with information on what they are all about. They will be located by gate A ahead of kick off, worth a visit.!
159 Regiment RLC is an Army Reserve Regiment based in the Midlands. The Regiment’s role is to manage the Army’s supply chain on operations – getting the right kit, to the right people at the right time. To do this, we use modern IT systems to help receive, store and issue everything that the Army needs to live and fight. On operations, this responsibility can be for hundreds of millions of pounds worth of equipment; everything from ammunition, food, weapons to replacement armoured vehicles.
Our soldiers undertake training in supply chain operations that is largely identical to their Regular Army counterparts and is often undertaken alongside them. For those that wish to, these courses also provide opportunity to gain a number of transferable civilian qualifications. Our Lance Corporals are able to gain a Level 3 Certificate in Logistics and Transport, our Sergeants a Level 5 Professional Diploma in Logistics and Transport and our Warrant Officers are able to study a Master’s Degree in Logistics.
As part of the Army’s Adaptable Force, we have a strong ‘soldier first’ ethos. We train and prepare all of our personnel to be able to operate anywhere around the world. This training includes core skills such as shooting, first aid and fitness. We also place great emphasis in developing our leaders; part of our job is to help you reach your full potential. Many of our personnel go on to gain instructional qualifications in physical training, first aid or weapon training. We also provide driver training, such as getting a car, truck or forklift license, for those that wish to.
If you are wondering how much time this takes, most of our Reservists complete 27 days training per year in order to qualify for their annual tax free allowance. This is normally made up of a 2 week consolidated ‘Annual Deployment Exercise’, half a dozen weekends and as many Wednesdays nights (Tuesday in Burton) as they can manage. There are of course some Reservists who do considerably more and are able to take advantage of the full range of adventure training, military training, and sporting opportunities that the Army Reserve has to offer (and get paid for it at the same time). This year we have had soldiers deployed on a United Nations peacekeeping mission in Cyprus, training in Kenya, mountain walking in the Spanish Pyrenees and many of our Regiment have recently returned from our Annual Deployment Exercise in the Netherlands. Next year this exercise will take place in Cyprus.
Our Regiment is based in six locations in the Midlands; Coventry, West Bromwich, Stoke on Trent, Telford, Burton on Trent and Grantham. We are recruiting for part-time roles in supply specialists, chefs, HR administrators and medics. All roles are open to males and females.
