Coventry Rugby can confirm that we will face Birmingham Moseley in a pre-season friendly match on Friday 25th August, at Billesley Common, Birmingham Moseley’s home ground.
After what is set to be a gruelling period of pre-season training, both teams will go head-to-head at the Common as they did 12 months ago at Butts Park Arena. Last year’s friendly proved to be a memorable one with Coventry taking the win in front of a huge home crowd. This year’s Midlands derby will no doubt be a repeat of the exciting showdown between the two sides ahead of the 2023/24 season.
The two clubs have a long-standing partnership steeped in history which will make for an exciting fixture. Coventry finished third in the Championship last season, our highest finish ever in the professional era and Alex Rae will be hoping for another successful pre-season friendly against our old rivals:
“It’s great to be playing Moseley – it’s a fixture with a lot of history over the years. They’ll be a really good opposition for us which is exactly what we need heading into the season.”
As both Coventry Rugby and Moseley reach historic 150th year anniversary milestones in the same season, we hope that this fixture will act as an exciting precursor for the likes of a Legends Match between the two clubs later in the 23/24 campaign.
In preparation for the 2023/24 season, both Midlands-based teams will be hoping to put on a show for spectators and fans after a long summer without rugby. The game will hopefully set the tone for another successful and thrilling season.
Kick off will be at 7.45pm on Friday 25th August 2023 at Billesley Common.
