Nick Walshe joins Coventry

DIRECTOR of rugby, Rowland Winter has added Nick Walshe to his coaching team as attack coach.

Walshe, 41, has spent the last two seasons with Aviva Premiership side Gloucester Rugby as attack and backs coach.

The former England scrum-half joined Gloucester in 2014 from the RFU, where as head coach he guided the England Under-20s to back-to-back Junior World Championships in 2013 and 2014.

Alongside his coaching credentials, Walshe enjoyed a successful playing career at Harlequins, Saracens, Sale and Bath and won England caps in 2006 before joining Bedford in a player/coach role in 2008.

“Nick will be an excellent addition to our coaching team,” said Winter. “His experience and coaching pedigree will be a great asset to the club.

“With Boris Stankovich, James Pritchard, Brendon Snyman and Brendan Burke having regular playing involvement, there was an opportunity to strengthen our coaching team by adding Nick.

“Nick shares our attacking philosophy and I am looking forward to working with him. His appointment allows me to increase my support to the other coaches and players, and allows us to progress and accelerate the work that we are doing behind the scenes.”

Also joining the management team are a number of further additions to the support staff.

Dr Rebecca Cam takes on the role of team doctor, as well as new appointments for Ashni Desai as assistant physiotherapist, Lucy Knifton as sports therapist, and Scott Sowerby and Tom Ryan who join as strength and conditioning coaches.
